Experts and industry insiders are predicting that the e-commerce sector will expand dramatically throughout the Middle East in 2012. "In the overall e-commerce space, this year is going to big," said Paul Kenny, the founder and chief executive of Cobone.com . "Daily-deals websites have almost forced people to go online and buy. We are converting people online almost every day."
Cobone.com, which launched in late 2010, has seen it's sales grow 35% on a month-over-month basis. The website recently debuted a fashion section, and has since seen a 10% increase in users per day. Cobone's success demonstrates the potential for online retailers in the Middle East.

Trafalgar General Trading Company has appointed Paragon Marketing Communications as its authorized media representative. Paragon provides companies and businesses with marketing communication services by implementing brand strategies. The communications company has been representing the luxury retailer since December 25th.

According to a study by ComScore, Apple got more traffic online last month than Walmart. According to the study, Apple is the only retailer (other than Amazon and eBay) in the top 15 most-visited websites in the U.S. in November. Apple gets almost as many web visitors as the New York Times, thanks in large part to Apple's music site iTunes. The digital-content store made up about 30% of Apple's unique visitors last month.

LivingSocial Middle East says its registered users have been growing by 30% to 50% per month. Of these registered users, some were shopping online for the very first time. “With the exceptions of ordering food and apparels, which you have to try on, most other goods can be purchased without being present in a shop. And with rapid technological advancement, such as the use of Microsoft’s Kinect motion technology, even this could change,” said LivingSocial managing director Dan Stuart.
LivingSocial recently launched its new mobile application for iPad and Android users, and says about 2% to 12% of all purchased goods have been sold via the use of the mobile app. According to Stuart, this "is a really good and positive movement forward, given that we just launched the application last week. The convenience it offers is that today, one can shop from anywhere with a mobile connectivity, be it sitting in a coffee shop or anywhere else”.

Web tracker Experian Hitwise reports a decline in web visits to daily deals websites Groupon and LivingSocial. Three online research companies Experian Hitwise, Compete and ComScore reveal the steady drops in traffic for both websites, due to new competing sites entering the market.
Overall visits to the sites were down 25% last week compared with the second week in June, says Research from analytic company Compete showed Groupon had its first month-over-month drop in traffic this year in July, while tracker ComScore said this week that both Groupon and LivingSocial were down last week from their top weeks in June.
