du TV adds russian channels

Several entertainment, documentary, news, film and children's TV channels have been added to du' s television offering. RTG, RBK, RTV1, Nashe Kino, Detski Mir TV / Teleclub, Karusel TV, CCTV Russian, and Rus ORTi are the channels that are now available via du's new Russian-language subscription package. The package is now available for a monthly fee of AED99.

"We are pleased to bring this enticing new line-up to du TV, bringing even more value to our Russian-speaking customers by expanding the number of channels we provide in their native tongue," said Farid Faraidooni, chief commercial officer at du.

du has launched a digital music store that allows du mobile users to download five songs a day, for a daily subscription fee of Dh1. The site has a collection of over 10,000 downloadable songs. The service will also allow du customers to share songs they like from the music store on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Digital music sales have proven to be extremely profitable, especially since Apple launched iTunes 10 years ago. The iTunes Store generates billions of dollars in revenues. However, it is not available in the Middle East, and other attempts to offer online music have not been successful.

du allows customers to block 'offensive' channels

Du has given customers of its pay-TV service the option of blocking channels they see as 'offensive'. After receiving complaints about inappropriate content, du began contacting customers to ask if they wanted to block certain German and Russian channels. "We are very sensitive to the local cultural ethics," said a spokesman for the company. "All our home customers, across nationalities, have the option of selecting TV packages as well as using control options on these channels, based on their personal preferences."
