New all-time record set on Twitter of 3.4 million visits, driven by riots in England

With the recent riots spreading across London, Twitter has seen an enormous uptake in traffic among British online users. Experian Hitwise reports within the three days of violence, UK visits to Twitter were so frequent that a new all-time record was set.

As reported by Experian Hitwise, Twitter accounted for one out of every 170 UK Internet visits on August 8 – approximately 3.4 million visits to Twitter.com – which beat the previous record that was set during the super-injunction scandal.

The eighth Ramadan campaign, organized by Zakat Fund will be launched to help raise more than Dh70m for those in need. The campaign will cover a series of television, radio and newspaper advertisements and will appear under the banner: "With participation we revive Zakat."

"We seek to collect more than Dh70 million and to raise the resources required so that we can benefit those who are in need across the UAE," said Abdullah bin Aqeeda Al Muhairy, the secretary general of the Zakat Fund, yesterday at the fund's headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
