Abraaj Capital in talks to buy stake in Motivate Publishing

The National reports on recent negotiations into buying a majority stake in Motivate Publishing by Abraaj Capital, the Abu-Dhabi based equity firm. Motivate Publishing, the Gulf's leading publisher of magazines and books, based in Dubai, are known to produce Middle East editions of Hello! and Campaign magazines.

The two companies started talks nearly a year ago, with intense talks taking place in March and April, the sources said. Motivate is behind titles including Gulf Business, What's On and Emirates Woman, as well as regional editions of Golf Digest and Hello! magazines published under licence from Conde Nast and Hola!

Magazines on bottles arrive in the Middle East

Motivate Publishing announced the signing of a joint venture with On Product Publishing International (OPP), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Modern Media Concepts, the global company behind the world's first magazine on a bottle.

The joint venture, called Motivate OPP Middle East will be headed by Thomas Kelly and will operate from Dubai and already has a number of projects in the pipeline for 2008.
