Saleh Al Abdooli named CEO of Etisalat

UAE telecoms operator Etisalat named Saleh Al Abdooli as chief executive of its domestic operations on Wednesday. Abdooli was formerly CEO of Etisalat Misr, but has now replaced acting CEO Nasser bin Obood. As a result of the management reshuffle, Etisalat appointed Saeed Al Hamli as CEO of Egyptian unit Etisalat Misr.

Etisalat chief corporate communications officer elected UAE Vice President of IPRA-Gulf Chapter

Ali Al Ahmed, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of Etisalat, has been elected as the Vice President - UAE of the International Public Relations Association - Gulf Chapter (IPRA-GC). He is mandated with driving the organisation's growth in the UAE, with a focus on strengthening industry partnerships and further enhancing IPRA-GC's profile in the country.

Mr. Faisal Al Zahrani, President of IPRA-GC, said: "We are pleased to have on board Ali Al Ahmed, a veteran communications professional who brings strong insights of the industry across the board. IPRA-GC will benefit greatly from his experience of shaping and leading Etisalat's communications strategy."

Mr Ali Al Ahmed commented: "IPRA-GC has played a key role in promoting dialogue and industry partnerships. As Etisalat UAE's Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Al Ahmed is responsible for ensuring an effective integration of the corporation's business units with its communications campaigns. He also provides strategic input for positioning the brand and its identity, with a consistent focus on a uniformed implementation through multiple channels of media. Prior to this role, Al Ahmed held the position of Etisalat Group Chief Strategy Officer where he served for two years and was responsible for identifying new growth opportunities and the development of effective business models.

Ali Al Ahmed's appointment has come at a crucial time when the IPRA-GC is organizing and hosting the 20th Public Relations World Congress (PRWC), for the first time in the Middle East, from March 13 to 15 in Dubai, under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President & Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The International Public Relations Association (IPRA), the world's most influential professional association for senior international public relations executives, organises the PRWC which is a biennial event that brings together global PR professionals to brainstorm on the latest trends and challenges in the communications industry.

More than 500 delegates from across the world are expected to attend the Congress to be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Dubai. The theme for the event is "From the Arab Street to Wall Street: Communications in the Age of Dialogue".

Yahlive and Etisalat collaborate on satellite TV uplink services

YahLive, the UAE based satellite broadcasting company, today signed a partnership agreement with Etisalat to collaborate on satellite broadcasting services. Under the new agreement, Etisalat will establish uplink services to YahLive's Y1A satellite which broadcasts at 52.5ºE.

News of the agreement will be welcomed by UAE based companies as it will allow national channels to be broadcasted in HD format for the first time, and on the HD hot-spot in the region, through YahLive's easily accessible and growing HD satellite offering.

Following the signing ceremony with Etisalat, Mohamed Youssif, CEO of YahLive, said, "The national channels in HD are the key attracting element to our satellite, so it was extremely important that we could offer an uplink service to those national channels, in addition to other channels based in UAE."

"This partnership with Etisalat comes within our mandate to enhance our offerings and our outstanding TV broadcasting services. We are delighted that Etisalat has joined forces with us to extend the audience reach of its HD channels. We will offer Etisalat with satellite based broadcast solutions that will bring highly targeted, reliable, effective coverage and high definition TV. Broadband MEA expands content and reach for 2012

Etisalat to add seven channels to its eLife TV

UAE-based telecommunications company Etisalat has added seven HD channels from broadcaster MBC to its eLife TV network. “At Etisalat, we always aim to provide the most engaging, refreshing and relevant content for our eLife customers. These new HD channels, which are available for eLife subscribers, will further enrich our HD line-up, offering a truly unparalleled viewing experience. The majority of these channels from MBC are amongst the top 10 most popular channels on the network, so we are confident this gesture will be well-received by our valued customers", said Rashed Majed Alabbar, vice-president of product marketing for Etisalat.

The channels that have been added are MBC 1, MBC 2, MBC 4, MBC Action, MBC Max, MBC Drama and Al Arabiya.

TRA to disable counterfeit phones

The Telecommunications and Regulatory Authority (TRA) in the UAE has set a deadline for customers using illegal phones. As of January 1, anyone found using a counterfeit phone will face termination of services from telecom providers. The counterfeit devices are to be detected with the help of mobile operators du and Etisalat.

According to the TRA, the telecom operators can determine whether a device is original by the phone's serial number and if it complies with the International Mobile Equipment Identity standard. Both du and Etisalat have said its services to counterfeit handsets would be suspended. Furthermore, anyone found manufacturing or supplying counterfeit phones can be penalised with a fine of up to Dh1,000,000.
