The Middle East's premier signage and imaging event opened in Dubai today, 15 February, 2009, and runs until 17 February at the Dubai Airport Expo. This is the 11th annual Signage & Graphic Imaging Middle East, with over 300 exhibitors, from 28 countries and over 10,000 visitors expected.

New product innovations unveiled at SGI 2011

New product launches proved the main attraction on a busy opening day at the Sign and Graphic Imaging (SGI) exhibition at Dubai Airport Expo yesterday.

The exhibition opened to a strong show of business optimism as exhibitors from across the region and globally used SGI as a platform for unveiling a series of new to market product lines.

“We had a phenomenal first day at SGI Middle East 2011. The show floor offers an impressive array of the very latest product innovations to hit the market and we are confident that the following two days will see plenty of business being done. Visitor numbers are up and exhibitors are confident of signing deals,” said Abdul Rahman Falaknaz, Chairman of International Expo-Consults (IEC), the organiser of SGI Middle East.

AGFA Graphics, one of the largest exhibitors at the show and the Platinum Sponsor of the SGI Awards 2011, made the global launch of its new Jeti 3348 HSS wide-format roll-to-roll printer at the show yesterday.

The Jeti 3348 HSS integrates the company's revolutionary new TurbTech drying technology. Jeti 3348 HSS produces vibrant colours and durable results for interior and exterior applications. It has been refined with the addition of a special back-lit option, which enables printing on both sides of the media, delivering brilliant backlit signage.

AGFA also launched its Jeti 1224 HDC. Built on a steel platform designed for three shift operations, the Jeti 1224 UV HDC features a linear motor driven vacuum bed for highly accurate dot placement in both flat bed mode or with the optional roll-to-roll feature.

Altech Digital of Dubai unveiled the new INTEC CP2020 at the show yesterday. Specially designed to cope with heavy stock, the new INTEC CP2020 can print on media up to 512 gsm, and on special coated media, such as magnetic media, greeting cards, envelopes, thick packaging media, polyester CTP plates, film positives, MCR sets, labels, posters and banners, and t-shirts and textile transfer paper.

AT Inks, based in India but with operations in the UAE, launched its Xaar Proton and Xaar Electron printheads at the show. Both models can be used in the production of indoor and outdoor graphics printed on a variety of materials, including paper, PVC, film, mesh fabrics and vinyl.

Saudi Arabia's Question Mark Est, who represents Chemica of France, launched its Easyweeding product at the show yesterday. Easyweeding is a polyurethane material for heat transfer. It’s a very stretchable product, ideal for many applications. Chemica offers Easyweeding in 20 colours at present, with more to follow. The product is Oeko-Tex class 1 certified, making it safe for use even in locations used by children.

Honaz, a free zone company from Dubai, is using this week’s SGI exhibition to promote the latest Konica wide format printers and a range of spare parts. Honaz is now providing spare parts for Roland, Mimaki, Mutoh and Seiko/HP printers. Parts include printheads, dampers, filters, motors, boards, tubes and much more.

The local company is also showcasing the new Copytrax DaVinci CD/DVD Printer - a high-speed six-colour CD/DVD inkjet printer. It has high throughput, is both Mac and PC compatible, and has refillable ink tanks, which makes it very cost effective.

Satbir is promoting two new to market product launches at SGI. The UAE-based company is exhibiting the new KPMF range of VWS-I series in matte colours. These are special colour vinyls for use in vehicle wraps.

Satbir is also showcasing the new STC Glass Projection Film. This film can be applied to glass windows and doors and an advertisement or image can then be projected onto the glass with as good a picture quality as a plasma screen.

Print industry leaders predict business upturn

Sign and Graphic Imaging (SGI) Middle East exhibition, taking place at Airport Expo Dubai in January, has received tremendous support from the regional and international marketplace as firms predict an upturn in business for 2011.

SGI 2011 will take place from January 24-26 at the Airport Expo Dubai. The exhibition showcases the latest products and emerging technologies from the industries of Advertising, Architectural Hardware, Banners & Posters, Digital Imaging, Electronic Message Centres, Electronic Signage, Graphic Imaging, Graphic Services, Large Format Printing and Signage.

According to Shihab Zubair, Business Development Manager, Middle East, Epson, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are the three markets that show the most promise in the region.

“Epson sees a great opportunity in the Middle East especially with our new solutions like our value added outdoor signage options and package proofing using our new white ink solution,” Zubair said.

“SGI is one of the most important exhibitions for our type of products and with the release of the new solutions from Epson its important to be at the show,” he added.

Large format units to be centre attraction at upcoming Sign and Graphic Imaging Middle East expo

Large format print technology will be on display and put to creative use at the Sign and Graphic Imaging (SGI) Middle East exhibition, taking place at Airport Expo Dubai in January.

Some of the world’s largest print units will be flown into Dubai for exhibiting at the trade show – the region’s leading gathering of print industry professionals.

“SGI Middle East is an important show in this region and ADS uses the show as a platform for demonstrating its high-end equipment and products to prospective clients and associates,” said Joseph K John, Managing Director at ADS.

ADS will be demonstrating Tekcel CNC Routers from Australia, Graphtec cutting plotters from Japan, GCC laser engraving/cutting machines from Taiwan, and ITC CNC tools from the UK. A high resolution large format digital printer will be a new attraction for the ADS stand at the show. With an output speed of 100-square-metres per hour visitors will be able to see the unit in action.

Giffin Graphics will also be promoting large-format print technology when it showcases the latest units from the UK’s Durst, a world-class manufacturer of professional large and medium format digital imagers for the photographic and graphic industries.

“Giffin Graphics has been a regular participant in SGI since 2003, so this will our ninth year and we are looking forward to it,” said Elias Bekhaazi, Manager, Digital Graphic Systems Division, Giffin Graphics.

“Giffin Graphics is a UAE-based company and the Middle East is our core market,” added Bekhaazi, who firmly believes that UV printing is the technology of the future.

The Durst portfolio includes Durst Inkjet Technology large format direct to media UV curing inkjet printers featuring Durst Quadro Array printhead technology, which provides uncompromisingly high quality print with exceptional productivity. Information on these units will be available at the Giffin Graphics stand at SGI.

Another local distributor, Honaz FZCO, will use SGI as the regional launch pad for promoting the new OTM wide format printer using Konica Heads.

Honaz will also be promoting Infiniti printers, Xaar printheads, Copytrax CD printers and SA International Photoprint RIP software.

SGI Middle East 2009 adopts online business matching component

Trade Arabia reports that the 11th annual Sign and Graphic Imaging Middle East (SGI 2009) exhibition will adopt the online Business Matching component, enabling pre-registered visitors to match their requirements to exhibitors. This way, the exhibitors can ensure they have the information required by potential customers before attending the show. SGI 2009 takes place from February 15 to 17, in Dubai.

“Business Matching enables exhibitors and visitors to begin communicating before meeting at SGI 2009. We hope that this will help both parties to define their goals for the show and will lead to more concrete orders being placed at SGI 2009,” said Abdul Rehman Falaknaz, president of show organisers International Expo Consults (IEC).

Despite the global economic turndown, IEC is predicting that this year’s SGI will be 40 per cent larger than the 2008 edition.

"Dubai, with its $100 billion retail market and its emerging retail trends, is known for its unique perpetual growth rate. The local industry offers tremendous opportunities across all segments of the signage, digital, retail and advertising industries," he added.
