Cheil Worldwide announces new chief operating officer for the MENA region

Azmi Yafi has been named Cheil’s COO for the Middle East and North Africa region, based in Dubai where Cheil MEA regional HQ is located.

Yafi will fill the position with immediate effect. He was a former CEO UAE operations at FP7 and a regional MD at Impact BBDO.

Speaking of Yafi’s appointment, Andrew Yi, President and CEO of Cheil MEA RHQ, says: “Cheil is strengthening its regional structure and growing the agency capabilities. We aim to become a regional force in the marketing communications industry and expand in the important neighbouring local markets. Azmi has a proven record of achievements in the region and we are thrilled to have attracted him to Cheil. We are confident he will help us achieve our goals and take Cheil MENA to new levels of excellence.”

Advertising spend in MENA region set to decline by 3.7%

According to a recent poll of key executives conducted by The National, advertising spending in the MENA region is forecasted to witness a decline of around 3.7 per cent due to the impact of the recent political unrest in the region, representing a decline in revenues of about $150m. A freeze in the key media market of Egypt will be a major factor behind the expected drop in the region's $4 billion advertising industry.

MENA Cristal announces Cristal Agencies of the Year

This year’s MENA Cristal Festival has revealed its three special Awards, Agency of the Year, Media Agency of the Year and Network of the Year. Media Agency of the Year award went to OMD, which has received the highest number of points in the media competition. FP7/BAH won the Advertising Agency of the Year award, with the highest points in the Promo & Direct, Cyber, Film, Daily Press, Outdoor, Magazine, Print Craft, Integrated, Corporate and Radio competitions. The third award, Network of the Year, has been awarded to FP7 for obtaining the highest number in all competitions.
